Nuclear Powered Guided Missile Cruiser Truxtun, a unit of the Naval Surface Force US Pacific Fleet, was commissioned on May 27, 1967 and is homeported in San Diego, California. She has a mission of operating against air, submarines and surface threats. Truxtun was named for Commodore Thomas Truxtun who was awarded a congressional medal on March 24, 1800 for the actions of his ship, the Frigate Constellation, against the French ship, La Vengeance. |
