Additional Details:
Remains of South Fork Dam. Whose unleashed waters struck Johnstown, Pennsylvania, with the force of an atom bomb on May 31, 1889. The railroad running through the breast of the dam now travels the route of the great flood. The railroad drops 400 feet in the 12 mile distance to Johnstown, Pa. Rushing down this swift descent, the water from the broken dam flattened buildings and bridges and took over 2200 lives, resulting in one of the greatest disasters in U. S. history.
