Near Dayton out of Carson City, Ne-
vada is this historic tunnel. Built to
tunnel through the hills to drain the
water from the flooded silver and gold
mines in Virginia City, this tunnel was
the saving of many mines and estab-
lished the fortune of Sutro, one of the
men whose colorful career figured so
prominently in the history of Nevada.
