With its commanding position at the entrance to
Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor,
Hammersmith Farm provides spectacular views of
ship traffic and yachting activities on the bay. This
imposing "shingle cottage” was built in 1887 by
John W. Auchincloss and served as a summer
White House for President and Mrs. Kennedy
during their vacations in Newport. Now open to
visitors.
