By winning the 1971 Indianapolis 500-mile Race at an
average speed of 157.735 miles an hour, a new record,
Al Unser became the fourth driver to score two consecutive
victories at the famous two-and-a-half-mile track. The
others were Wilbur Shaw, Mauri Rose and Bill Vukovich.
Unser had won the 1970 event at a speed of 155.749.
