The Indian pueblo of San Felipe is about twenty-
nine miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. An-
tiquity and mystery surround its old Spanish church,
built by a generation centuries gone.
Some of the first endeavors of the brave wander-
ing pioneer priests to snatch the savages from bar-
barism and teach them the uses of husbandry and
nobility of toil took place here, close to the Rio
Grande River, upon whose banks San Felipe is
situated.
