ABOARD USS MISSOURI – Puget Sound Naval Ship-
yard. This view looks aft toward some of the 16"
guns on this historic battleship which was commis-
sioned in 1944 and decommissioned in 1955 after
having steamed over half a million miles in uninter-
rupted active duty. The instrument of surrender ter-
minating the Second World War was signed on this
deck 2 September 1945 as she lay at anchor in
Tokyo Bay.
