THIS 2500 H.P., DIRECT CURRENT, DOUBLE DRUM
HOIST, is located 2 miles underground at Burke,
6 miles northeast of Wallace, Idaho. Manufactured
in Scotland, this huge machine is intended to lift
9-ton payloads at 2,034 ft. per minute for a dis-
tance of 7,150 ft. It currently is hoisting ore 5900
ft. from the 7500 ft. level (deepest single shaft
in the nation) where the rock temp. is 112°. Hecla
Mining Company operates this 1,000 ton-per-day
mine in the Coeur d'Alene Mining District.
