This 2500 H.P., direct current, double drum hoist, is located 2 miles underground at Burke, 6 miles northeast of Wallace, Idaho. Manufactured in Scotland, this huge machine is intended to lift 9-ton payloads at 2,034 ft. per minute for a distance of 7,150 ft. It currently is hoisting ore 5900 ft. from the 7500 ft. level (deepest single shaft in the nation) where the rock temp. is 112 degrees. Hecla Mining Company operates this 1,000 ton-per-day mine in the Coeur d' Alene Mining District
