KITT PEAK NATIONAL OBSERVATORY
TUCSON, ARIZONA
This observatory is one of the newest and lar-
gest in the Western Hemisphere. The work done
here is on the frontier of universal astronomical
research. The combination of frequent clear
weather, minimum of air turbulence, remoteness
from bright lights, vegetation, suitable summit
area, and a supporting city with the University,
make an ideal situation for the Observatory.
Frequent thunderstorms occur during July and
August; this fantastic night scene, illuminated
by lightening was photographed during one of
these storms.
