bank is an artist's conception of the famous
Gotthard Pass in the Alps that separates Swit-
zerland from France. This railroad tunnel is
9.3 miles long. A small passenger trai actualinio
ly comes in and out of two simulated tunnels,
which can be seen to the left of the painting..
This tunnel was completed in 1881.
