CONCRETE SHIP ATLANTUS
CAPE MAY POINT, NEW JERSEY
This concrete ship situated at the foot of
Sunset Boulevard was one of an experimental
lot of ships built by the United States Govern-
ment during the World War. The Atlantus was
purchased by promoters for use as a Ferry
Landing for a proposed route from Cape May
Point to Lewes, Delaware. One night a North-
east Storm broke it from its mooring and
beached it and the ferry project did not mate-
rialize at that time, but there is still hope that
it will eventually become a reality.
