ower Park Marina is symbolized by a water tower stationed at the entrance.
Water was pumped from Little Potato Slough into the tower for cleaning and
processing island vegetables in one large warehouse. The produce was transported
by 20,000 freight cars annually to canneries and markets. Fires partially
destroyed the warehouse, leaving three separate warehouses. This boxcar
city beyond the levee started at Terminous in 1927, by Western Pacific
Railroad. Rail service disappeared in 1961, when Western Pacific was replaced
by modern machinery and trucks. The area was nearly vacant until
1968, when it was purchased and converted into a marina. A recreational vehicle
park with 200 camp-sites and hook-ups is scheduled for completion.
