built by Rensselaer &
Saratoga RR. Trains were pulled over it
by horses until 1854.
1862-Burned on Green Island side and rebuilt.
1879-Replaced by iron bridge on Green Island
side.
1835-Covered bridge
1884-Replaced by iron bridge on Troy side by
D & H RR for trains and automobiles.
1916-1924-New towers and lift span added.
1965-Converted to automobile traffic only.
1977-Collapsed at mid-day on March 15, due to
floodwaters. Cleared of traffic only mo-
ments before collapse by telephone com-
pany crews repairing cable on the bridge,
avoiding a major tragedy.
