Hitting the greens at Bob Hope's Desert Golf classic won't be any
easier, but being recognized by his fans will be, in his spectacular-
ly personalized $14,000 custom Golf Kart. Designed to be immediately
recognized as Hope's personal machine, Hollywood customizer George
Barris shaped the standard Cushman golf kart to resemble its owner.
Hope's facial features (including a five-foot-long "ski nose") were
formed with steel tubing and sheeting, then painted with a combination
of flesh-color pearly and a blushing of kandy red to accent Hope's
dimples and smile. Keeping the golfing theme of the kart, Barris de-
signed the rear section as an eight-foot Kandy-blue golf ball. Topping
off the kart is a golf cap with the Desert Golf Classic Tournament
medallion. The interior of the kart is finished in Acrilon gold fur,
and houses an entertainment console with Panasonic TV, clock, stereo,
tape deck with playback & record and AM-FM stereo. A further unique
feature is the Panasonic video camera with wide angle lens mounted at
the rear so Hope's golf swing can be filmed for instant replay, and
corrections or improvements made.
