SHENANDOAH VALLEY ACADEMY, WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA, one of the oldest schools in America,
was incorporated by the House of Burgesses of Virginia in 1785. Tradition carries the school back to
1764. There have been continuous sessions since incorporation, except during the Civil War. In this
picture are school buildings situated in the midst of twenty-two acres, containing athletic fields, tennis
courts, cottages for the faculty, etc. For sixteen years, the school has been a military academy. It is on
the All-Southern List of accredited schools and its graduates go to West Point and Annapolis on certificate.
