"LITTLE BROWN CHURCH OF SUNOL"
Early Mary Pickford films show this historic rural
church in its original white.
Built in 1885, "Little Brown Church of Sunol" sets in
a wooded vale under shelter of giant oaks as befits
the hymn "Church in the Wildwood." The old hymn
was indeed inspired by the rustic beauty of another
small Congregational church years ago in lowa.
"Little Brown Church of Sunol" is in Sunol, Califor-
nia, midway between Niles and Pleasanton at the
entrance to Kilkare Canyon. Without regular services
for 25 years, it was reactivated in 1949 by the Rev-
erend Robert B. Whitaker, now Pastor Emeritus. As a
community church its doors are open to all faiths.
It offers a lovely setting for a simple country wed-
ding.
