MAIN BUILDING SOLDIERS' HOME. This building,
prior to the Civil War, was a Baptist seminary known as the
Chesapeake Female Seminery. When taken by the Federal
Army, it was used as a hospital for officers. Immediately
after the war, Gen. P. F. Butler purchased it and the acreage
surrounding and sold it to the Government; it formed the
nucleus of the present home.
