CASA JUAN DE ANZA at San Juan Bautista, built in
1781, has played a delightful rôle in California's roman-
tic history. Here in 1828 was born Antonia Castro, favorite
niece of General Castro, who called her "Rosa del Rancho,"
a name that Tulley was to immortalize in his poem "The
Rose of the Rancho." Nearby is Mission San Juan Bau-
tista, which was founded in 1797.
