RAPID TRANSIT IN 1780.
BOATING ON THE MOHAWK RIVER.-Boats were propelled by means
of poles. John Post of Utica was the owner of several boats employed for passenger and
merchandise traffic between Utica and Schenectady. Rate of speed, six to thirty-five
miles per day, depending upon conditions.
