| Founded in 1770 by Father Junipero Serra, who is buried there, the Carmel Mission is distinguished from other California missions by its Moorish architecture. It was the second mission established in the state. It is on the outskirts of the beautiful and quaint city of Carmel, home of many artists and writers. |
