MAIN STREET is a fine, brodooughfare, ted
for its grand old elm trees, which the Rev. Sam Johnson
was largely instrumental in having planted. These trees have
grown to immense proportions and have afforded subjects for
poet and artist, because of their surpassing beauty. The
oldest house in Bridgeport, erected in 1740, stands on Main
Street.
