Back:
Where Golden Gate Park comes out upon the
Great Highway and Beach Esplanade, one finds the
Beach Chalet-the Sloop "Gjoa" and an Old Dutch
Windmill. The latter pumps water for Park irriga-
tion and is the largest Windmill in the world. The
Beach Chalet is a restaurant operated by the City
where dining is an inexpensive treat,
treat, either for
lunch, tea or dinner. If at Sunset Time, you view
a magnificent never to be forgotten sight of the sun
sinking into the Pacific Ocean. The "Gjoa", his-
toric vessel which Capt. Amundsen used in navigat-
ing the Northwest passage in 1908 is now beached
in a hollow, having been presented to the City by
the Captain on behalf of Norway.
