The massive arch, built without a keystone, is one of the finest constructions of its kind; of Moorish design. The stairway on the right was formerly used as a ramp to transport canon from the ground to the terreplein above. Construction was started in 1672-completed in 1756. Built entirely of coquina, this fortification is one of the finest preserved in the world today.
