The Egg Tree
Here's something to crow about-
a tree that grows golden eggs that
any hen would envy! Raised
commercially in Florida for sale
as indoor or outdoor ornamental
plants, the seeds are guaranteed
to grow. They sprout within
fourteen days, and grow to a
height of about 3 ft. They bear
hen-sized eggs at about seventy-
five days, and continue to bear
year-round for three years. The
plants have a beautiful purple
flower that produces the white
"eggs," which change to a
rich, full golden color as they
ripen. The low-calorie, low-
cholesterol fruit is prepared like
Eggplant (stuffed, baked or fried),
and has a slightly "melon-y" taste.

EGG TREE (Solanum melongena)
This ornamental plant with edible fruit is the
forerunner of the eggplant. A native of S.E.
Asia (earliest reference: a 5th century Chinese
book), this plant is raised commercially in Florida,
and seeds are sold by mail. An indoor/outdoor
"conversation piece."
