STODDARD COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Stoddard County is the largest county in the Missouri
"Bootheel" and the eighth largest in the state. It
has a land area of 837 square miles. The first settlers
of Stoddard County were the Benjamin Taylor family
of North Carolina who moved into the area in 1825.
Stoddard County was organized Jan. 2nd, 1836. It
was named for Captain Amos Stoddard who took
possession of this state after the Louisiana Purchase
in 1804.
