the Lovingston Hotel, was built in 1809.
Nelson was cut off from Amherst County in
1807 and Lovingston became the county
seat. Nelson County was named for General
Thomas Nelson, Virginia's third governor
after statehood. Its first Judge was Hon.
Archibald Stuart.
