Logan County was created by legislative
act in 1839. Abraham Lincoln, then a member
of the legislature, being author of the act.
He named it for his fellow-legislator, Dr.
John Logan, of Murphysboro, the father of
Gen. John A. Logan, of Civil War fame.
The town of Lincoln was named. for
Abraham Lincoln in Aug. 1853.
