The old Warren County Courthouse, built
in 1858 by slave labor, on a site designated
in the will of Newitt Vick, founder of the City
of Vicksburg, stands as Vicksburg's most his-
toric landmark. Target of repeated shell fire
from the Federal fleet during the siege of
1863, the building bears but few scars of the
battle.
