The historic Courthouse in the center of the
Murfreesboro Public Square was the scene of
one of the most daring exploits of General
Nathan Bedford Forrest during the War
between the States. In a dawn attack on July
13, 1862, he delivered several score civilian
prisoners who were being held prisoner in
the building by the Federal Army.
