Home of Henry S. Lane and his wife Joanna Elston Lane. As first Permanent National Chairman of The Republican Party, Sen. Lane was influential in election of his close personal friend, President Abraham Lincoln. Elected to U. S. Senate in 1861, he continued through The Civil War, retiring in 1867. Was trustee of Asbury (DePauw) University and active in the Indiana Historical Scoiety. |
