UNITED HAITI CORPORATION
This is perhaps one of the most interest-
ing scenes in Haiti, and reminds one of the
market squares of France and Spain.
The country surrounding the prominent
towns in the Republic is remarkably fertile
and its weekly yield to these towns, apart
from its tremendous shipments is a matter
of great moment. The needs of the
native are as a rule simple, but there is
always a foreign element to be catered to,
and the produce from neighboring farms
and plantations is rich in fruit of the
choicest kinds and vegetables such as only
the tropics can produce. The merchants
are of a happy nature, and Market Day is
a gala day for every town.
