P.S. I was under the impression when I wrote these cardo that
atta Peak was the highest point in the park but when Jimmy
came home he told me differently. It is the highest pointain the
park adjacent to the area that can be reached by vehicles.
However mt. Whitney
& many 13,000 ft. mts are also inside
Sequoia National Park.
There are said to be 1000 steps in this stairway,
they are not however all in
flight. The
rock is 6, 719 ft. above sea level & over 6000 ft.
above San Joaquin valley. The stairway from the
road at
road at north side of rock to its top gains 300 ft.
in elevation. This is not the highest point in the
park but affords an excellent view of the Great
western Divide, alta Peak (highest point in park 11
San Joaquin valley & distant Coast Range.
