This new courthouse cost $3,000,000. The county
is named after Chief Tuskaloosa, the mighty
Creek (Muscogee) Indian whose warriors fought
Hernando De Soto at the Battle of Mauvilla (near
the present town of Grove Hill, Ala.). This Battle
is considered the bloodiest ever fought in Ameri-
ca.
