DEATH VALLEY SCOTTY
Death Valley, California
Walter Scott was born in the Blue Grass country of Ken-
tucky in 1872. He came to Death Valley at the age of
12, appearing in the limelight in 1905 with his record-
breaking special-train trip from Los Angeles to Chicago in
less than 45 hours. His importance in the early history
of the area during the mining days soon obtained for
him the nickname of "Death Valley Scotty."
