INTERIOR OF METROPOLITAN OPERA
HOUSE. The Metropolitan Opera House occupies an entire
block on Broadway, through to 7th Avenue, - a space 200
by 260 feet square. It was opened October 2, 1883. The interior
was ruined by fire in 1892, but was rebuilt and improved at
a cost of $500,000, with a seating capacity of 3,500; there are
54 boxes, 35 of which are owned by stock-holders.
