Robert Browning, one of the most intellectual of
English poets of this century was born at Camberwell,
London, May 7th, 1812. His first poem "Pauline
published in 1833, was written when he was only
nineteen years of age, and this was shortly followed
by "Paracelsus." It is, however, impossible here to
give a list of his numerous writings, suffice it to say
that "The Ring and the Book" is considered to be
the gem of his collection. He married in 1846
Elizabeth Barrett Barrett, a lady of great poetical
gifts. He died in Venice on December 12th, 1889,
and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
