Ringed Plover. The common ringed plover, also
called the sand-lark, is barely 8 inches in length. The
throat has a black band broadest over the breast with
a white ring above. The eggs are generally four in
number and are prized as food, although the plover's
eggs" of the London market are usually those of the
lapwing.
