Common Snipe. Closely related to the woodcock,
which it resembles in the great length of bill and total
absence of webs on the toes, but the head bears longitudi-
nal markings absent in the woodcock. It is found in
marshy localities in England and Wales and on the moor-
lands of Scotland.
