Nelson's Humanity at the Battle of the Nile, 1798.
At the Battle of the Nile, Nelson was struck on the fore-
head by an iron splinter. He was carried below and his
head bound up, but some time after, news ran through the
ship that the French flagship, the "Orient," which was on
fire, was about to blow up. In the confusion Nelson found
his way up on deck and ordered the captain to launch his
one boat that would float, to go to the heip of the drowning
men.
