Foxhunting has been for many years among the
favourite sports of the wealthy and leisured classes,
although the method of pursuing it has altered vastly.
We find the sport mentioned in old laws, charters, and
sport treatises as far back as the 12th and 13th centuries,
although until the 17th century it appears to have been
pursued more for the sake of exterminating a nuisance
than for the sport.
