CARTE POSTALE.
Polo is an equestrian game of considerable antiquity and
of Oriental origin. Many old Eastern documents mention
the sport, chief among which is an illuminated Persian
MS. of the poems of Hafiz belonging to the 16th century,
now in the possession of the Bodleian Library, Oxford. First
played by Europeans in India in 1863, and introduced into
England in 1871, it has now become one of the premier
sports of the fashionable world.
