Archery. During the Middle Ages the English archers
were famous for their prowess with the longbow, and the
skill attained in the sports on the village green was put to
deadly use in many battles, notably at Cressy, Poitiers and
Agincourt. Archers formed a part of the English army
until the reign of Queen Elizabeth.
