"A Cavalier," by J. L. Ernest Meissonier, born
February 21st, 1815, died at Paris, 1891. This picture is
in the Wallace Collection, Hertford House, and is the
most celebrated single figure by this artist. The waiking
movement and the nonchalant swagger with which the
Cavalier dangles his glove is very realistic, and the whole
figure is full of the time depicted.
