General Booth, born at Nottingham, April 10, 1829.
Married 1855 Catherine Mumford (whose name is held in
remembrance as the mother of the Salvation Army). Was
first a Methodist minister, but in 1865, on Mile-end waste,
started a mission from which has grown the mighty
organization, the Salvation Army, whose force and activities
now compass the wide world.
