NIAGARA FALLS FROM GOAT ISLAND. The
origin of the name Niagara, signifying "Thunder of Waters''
is of Iroquois (Indian) extraction. Niagara Falls are divided
in two by Iris (so called because of the number of rainbows
seen when the sun shines) or Goat Island, one-half mile long.
The American side of the falls is 900 feet wide and 167 feet high.
