CONFEDERATE FLAG POLE AND COURT HOUSE
Standing on the northwest side of Court Square in Blakely,
Ga., where it was re-erected when the present white columned
brick court house was built in 1904, is the only Confederate
Flag Pole now standing in the Southern States. Erected May
16, 1861, the pole was selected from a long leaf pine tree
18 inches in diameter, 90 feet in length and spliced with 10
feet of timber to make it an even 100 feet in height. Having
decayed in or near the ground it has been taken down
several times and only about 65 feet now remains standing of
its original height.
