GEORGE C. WALLACE
Governor of Alabama
Since taking office in Jan., 1962, Gov. Wallace
has become not only the most popular governor
in contemporary times in his own state, but is
also the most popular person in the South and
his ideas are increasing in popularity throughout
the nation. His office in Montgomery is con-
stantly flooded with requests for him to speak
in all parts of the country. He is particularly
known for his declarations against the increasing
centralization of power in the Federal govern-
ment. He has said: "The government that takes
care of you from the cradle to the grave will
tell you what to do from the cradle to the
grave".
