Stephen F. Austin employed the Rangers to protect the
frontier from marauding Indians prior to 1835, when
Daniel Parker organized them into the permanent "Texas
Ranger Force."
Now the Ranger is an established, law-enforcement
institution, the oldest of its kind in the United States.
