Back:
"On this site of the present Court House, in 1839,
was built the first house in San Bernardino, the
house of Jose Del Carmen Lugo, one of the
grantees of the Rancho San Bernardino. Here
in 1851, a stockade of logs was built as a pro-
tection against the Indians. 100 pioneer fami-
lies lived here more than a year," so reads a
tablet on the Court House erected in 1929.
