Fort Wm. Henry originally erected in 1692,
was destroyed by the French in 1696, re-
constructed 20 years later as Fort Frederick,
and then leveled at the beginning of the
Revolution to prevent its capture by the
British. Again reconstructed after about a
century and now part of a state park. Con-
tains many Indian relics. This was the
domain of the Chief Samoset.
